ARTIST STATEMENT:

Photography provides me a creative outlet that is as much science as it is art. Not only must I be an artisan, but I must also take on the roles of a physicist and a chemist. By combining the unique skills from each discipline I strive to create visions of the world that both showcase technical ability and provide a more intangible feeling of movement by way of their aesthetic qualities. It is my intent to alter your inertia by drawing you in, pushing you away, or stopping you in your tracks.

In order to accomplish this goal I choose to capture my images using a view camera and film. The view camera affords me the technical control and precision needed to capture the image through use of the physical properties of optics rather than relying on digital software manipulation. Film is my preferred medium of choice because it is an entirely analog process. Light is captured in the negative and then light is used again to create the print. From the decisive moment of capture to the final photographic print I am physically manipulating light and photosensitive media to turn my vision into the work you see before you.
